Half Term Homework

To create our prelim we firstly had to do a rough idea of what we could do. I then had to storyboard my idea to see what and how it would look on the camera. After we had got into our group we had to make a decision on what idea we was going to do and decided on mine and Mackenzie’s idea. We then had to set location and my group went around the school to take photos on our phones for how the shots would look on camera. It gave a more accurate idea. The script was then made and put to the storyboard. After this we then had to decide the order in which we were going to film. After this we began to film and take some shots to see which one would be better to use. After this our shots were uploaded to the Imac and this is where editing began. We cut out the bits of the clip in which we didn’t need. After this we added transitions and sound clips. We then added the titles of our film and duration time to everything that we had entered into our prelim.
The creative decisions me and my group made during the progress of our groups prelim was adding a extra shot in to our prelim. This shot was not on beginning storyboard but we decided to add another shot in as we believed that once we had cut out our unwanted bit’s the prelim looked very short. We decided to add another shot after realising this.
In my groups prelim I think things that could be changed to it to improve it could be more footage. I think that our prelim is very short compared to others in our class. And even though the duration of the piece does not really matter if we had more to deal with we could have made our piece better. I also believe that using better angles with high and low and side angles could really help to make our prelim better as we have used angles that are plain and simple to use. When we were filming my group and I found it difficult to keep the head room in the camera the same and found it hard to keep the same amount of head room. We found this out by how many shots we had to take of the same scene. Finally I think that my group could improve continuity next time as in one shot you can see that Joe’s arms are open but in the next shot they are closed. Little things like this that the audience can see can put your grade down. So if we was to do our prelim again we would really look out for continuity.
In our prelim I think that the things that are good in my groups prelim is the shoulder shots in which we took. We used quite a few shoulder shots and I believe they came out very well in the prelim. Our 180degree rule also came out very well I believe when we are arguing because it gives the whole view of me and Joe rowing. The sound in which we added to our prelim I believe was good as we added in the creak to the door it gave the door opening and closing more effect than just the normal door opening and closing. Finally I think that the transitions we used in our prelim were good to as we used a black fade which showed that something bad was happening and in our prelim this was arguing and also the affaire.
When Nighthawk films do their final piece we shall keep a good eye on the continuality as this is a main topic where if it goes wrong the audience can pick it up straight away. The continuality has to be perfect so I believe that we should get some actors in so we our self can keep an eye out for continuality in our piece. Also our prelim was a fast piece of work so we will think a lot harder in which we can do this time. The use of genre we will change as our prelim we believed was quite boring and there was not a lot of ideas in which you could use with it. If we thought harder we could think of some really good ideas and make our piece good. The set in which we used for our prelim was very boring in a classroom. I believe that using a boring set didn’t really boost us to do better in our prelim. In our final piece we are looking to film outside of school as there are many places in which we can film and many opportunities to try different places. I believe that shooting outside school will give our group a lot more motivation to do well and this will boost our grade.
The types of angles we will change in our final piece as we didn’t really find the shots we used in our prelim very interesting. As we have more time we will try different angles to every shot to see how and what ones will look better.
During the process of our prelim I have learned a lot of new skills and have developed many of them to. The angles of the camera are very hard to do and take a lot of time to get right. I learnt how to do the 180 degree rule while filming a conversation. I found this interesting as I have never noticed it before when watching a film or programme. I learnt how to edit using the Imacs which I found very interesting to do the use of transitions and sound clips on the computers are very interesting and fun to use. I learnt how long it actually takes to film just 20seconds of filming. And how when you cut all your shots how small your piece actually looks when added up with everything. Editing takes longer than filming the shots which I thought was weird as I believed that filming would take much longer. I learnt the skill of being a director when filming. We all had a chance to be the director and all done it effectively.
