Risk Assessment

In our two minute film we have a risk of using a car/van in our film. The problems of using a car/van would mean that someone could be hit by the car or the car/van could be damaged when we are using it.
To prevent any trouble we will be having someone who has passes their driving test and are able to drive with a licence. Characters in the car will be wearing their seatbelts at all times when they are in the car. This will prevent any accidents as the car will be going very slow anyway. The characters that will be in the scene that the car is in they will be assured to stay away with a distance from the car/van. This will prevent accidents happening.

More Film research.

I found it hard to think of ideas to put into my groups first two minutes of the film. This lead me to do more research on British Gangster films.

I decided to watch Snatch for some research of British Gangster. As the director Guy Ritchie is common for doing the genre of films. The beginning of the film is similar to the other films I have seen. It starts with the monologue or voice over which is in the beginning of the other films. The voice over is spoken by Turkish who is the main character in Snatch, this is also similar to the other films as every film monologue/voice over is spoken by the main character. Snatch also shows in the beginning of the film about what the life they lead is really like. The violence and the crime is shown in the first few minutes of the film. The characters are introduced fairly quickly and we can see how some of the characters are and how they act. The introduction towards the main characters show the audience who’s at the top of the gangsters. This is familiar to our groups piece as we are showing the top gangster and we are also using voice over/ monologues like all British gangster films in what I have watched.

Next I decided to watch a film in what was not British gangster. I decided to watch the Godfather, as this is a well known gangster film. Yet again at the beginning of the film there is a voice over. Throughout the beginning of the film the clip shows a lot of the killings in which this group of gangsters have done. When I watched it I was wondering what was going to happen later on in the film. The beginning shows the violence and the crime as well as the other films do. In my groups film we are shooting the gangsters and in this film it gives good examples of how people could be shot. This has influenced me on some ideas about how the gangsters in my film will do the shootings.

Initial Idea more added.

As my group began to talk about the first two minutes of our film. We decided to add more scenes into it. The beginning two minutes we have now decided to add a bank robbery into it.
This is now what the rest of our film will be based on. It will still follow the life of Vinny and Red, who loose everything they have and the life they lead. But now it has a plot behind how the characters actually lost everything.

Initial Basic Idea.

In the beginning of our film we have a group of gangsters that meet. They believe they meet to settle conflict but really the two main characters have set them up and kill them all.

This is where the film flashes back to where to two main characters actually meet and how the two become partners and two of the well known gagsters.

Their life’s are now shown it shows the killings in which the two have done. Shows the audience how much they had by what they do. The women, Cars, Houses and the money and shows the high hierarchy and how people looked up to the pair.

Then things start to go wrong as they get involved in the wrong job and kill the wrong person. Killing this person was bad as this is how their life’s begin to change.

By killing this man everything they own and love leaves the pair. This is when the two decide to go their different ways and leave each other and grow apart.

Their life’s are then shown in a bad way as they have nothing.

A few years down the line the two decide to do one last job with each other and this is killing the people who made them lose everything.

This is when it goes back to the meeting at the beginning and the killing is shown again.

Film Research

Film Research.
In today’s lesson I managed to watch three films these were the business, Sex and the City and Twilight. The business is in the genre of a British Gangster film. The other two films are in the genre of Romcom which is romantic comedy.
As I only watched one film of British gangster in class I could not say about the similarities in which I noticed because of this I decided to watch another opening of a British Gangster film. I decided to watch the Krays, the similarities that I could see straight away in the opening few minutes is the black background that is put up. In the Krays the background is black for a few minutes why all the titles are shown and gone through the actors names. But in The Business the black background is only used for a short time. The use of monologues are used in both of the films in The Business the speaker of the monologues is Frankie who is played by Danny Dyer he is the main character in this film. In The Krays the monologue is spoken by the mum of the twins but she is not the main character in the film but I see her as the main character in the first few minutes of the film. I decided to watch another British Gangster film and this one was Lock, Stock and two smoking barrels I decided to look at this film to see if there was a monologue in this one. In this, one of the characters are talking over the top at the beginning for a tiny bit. Then the actors are talking in different scenes which shows what the characters are actually doing. Also in this film I decided to look out to see if the black background was being used and it had been used. It was used to put the title of the film on.
In the two Romcom films in which I watched the similarities between the two I noticed was that the two films also as the films listed above both had monologues in them at the beginning. The similarities between the two between music is that the music in sex and the city is low love music which is played throughout the opening. In twilight the music is soft and low as the same as sex and the city. The titles of the films are placed over the top of the clip on which is being shown. In Sex and the city the titles are shown in the corners of the screen. In twilight the titles are shown over the top of the scene that is being shown.
In my group we have decided to do the genre of British Gangster. From watching The Business the aspects in which my group would use from this is the way the life of the characters is at the moment and then how it flashes back to basically how the characters got there. Showing their life before they got to where they started.

Half Term Homework

To create our prelim we firstly had to do a rough idea of what we could do. I then had to storyboard my idea to see what and how it would look on the camera. After we had got into our group we had to make a decision on what idea we was going to do and decided on mine and Mackenzie’s idea. We then had to set location and my group went around the school to take photos on our phones for how the shots would look on camera. It gave a more accurate idea. The script was then made and put to the storyboard. After this we then had to decide the order in which we were going to film. After this we began to film and take some shots to see which one would be better to use. After this our shots were uploaded to the Imac and this is where editing began. We cut out the bits of the clip in which we didn’t need. After this we added transitions and sound clips. We then added the titles of our film and duration time to everything that we had entered into our prelim.
The creative decisions me and my group made during the progress of our groups prelim was adding a extra shot in to our prelim. This shot was not on beginning storyboard but we decided to add another shot in as we believed that once we had cut out our unwanted bit’s the prelim looked very short. We decided to add another shot after realising this.
In my groups prelim I think things that could be changed to it to improve it could be more footage. I think that our prelim is very short compared to others in our class. And even though the duration of the piece does not really matter if we had more to deal with we could have made our piece better. I also believe that using better angles with high and low and side angles could really help to make our prelim better as we have used angles that are plain and simple to use. When we were filming my group and I found it difficult to keep the head room in the camera the same and found it hard to keep the same amount of head room. We found this out by how many shots we had to take of the same scene. Finally I think that my group could improve continuity next time as in one shot you can see that Joe’s arms are open but in the next shot they are closed. Little things like this that the audience can see can put your grade down. So if we was to do our prelim again we would really look out for continuity.
In our prelim I think that the things that are good in my groups prelim is the shoulder shots in which we took. We used quite a few shoulder shots and I believe they came out very well in the prelim. Our 180degree rule also came out very well I believe when we are arguing because it gives the whole view of me and Joe rowing. The sound in which we added to our prelim I believe was good as we added in the creak to the door it gave the door opening and closing more effect than just the normal door opening and closing. Finally I think that the transitions we used in our prelim were good to as we used a black fade which showed that something bad was happening and in our prelim this was arguing and also the affaire.
When Nighthawk films do their final piece we shall keep a good eye on the continuality as this is a main topic where if it goes wrong the audience can pick it up straight away. The continuality has to be perfect so I believe that we should get some actors in so we our self can keep an eye out for continuality in our piece. Also our prelim was a fast piece of work so we will think a lot harder in which we can do this time. The use of genre we will change as our prelim we believed was quite boring and there was not a lot of ideas in which you could use with it. If we thought harder we could think of some really good ideas and make our piece good. The set in which we used for our prelim was very boring in a classroom. I believe that using a boring set didn’t really boost us to do better in our prelim. In our final piece we are looking to film outside of school as there are many places in which we can film and many opportunities to try different places. I believe that shooting outside school will give our group a lot more motivation to do well and this will boost our grade.
The types of angles we will change in our final piece as we didn’t really find the shots we used in our prelim very interesting. As we have more time we will try different angles to every shot to see how and what ones will look better.
During the process of our prelim I have learned a lot of new skills and have developed many of them to. The angles of the camera are very hard to do and take a lot of time to get right. I learnt how to do the 180 degree rule while filming a conversation. I found this interesting as I have never noticed it before when watching a film or programme. I learnt how to edit using the Imacs which I found very interesting to do the use of transitions and sound clips on the computers are very interesting and fun to use. I learnt how long it actually takes to film just 20seconds of filming. And how when you cut all your shots how small your piece actually looks when added up with everything. Editing takes longer than filming the shots which I thought was weird as I believed that filming would take much longer. I learnt the skill of being a director when filming. We all had a chance to be the director and all done it effectively.
